A senator, a preacher and a Boy Scout were passengers in a small plane that developed engine trouble.  “We’ll have to bail out,” the pilot said.  “Unfortunately, there are only three parachutes.  I have a wife and seven small children.  My family needs me.  I’m taking one of the parachutes,” and he jumped.  “I’m the smartest politician in the world,” said the senator. “The country needs me.  I’m taking one of the parachutes.”  And he jumped.  “I’ve had a good life,” said the preacher to the Boy Scout, “and yours is still ahead of you.  You take the last parachute.”  “Don’t need to,” shrugged the youth.  “There are two parachutes left.  The smartest politician in the world jumped with my backpack.”

Oh, how did we ever get back around to the election process again?  Why can’t we vote for everyone and everything at the same time so we could have some peace and quite for awhile?  On and on they go about what they are going to do for us, how they are going to be the best leader ever, and how they can correct all the wrongs from the previous elected politicians.  They all start out saying they will not run a negative campaign but by the end of the election everyone looks like they went to a pig washing.  Every time I see a commercial bashing the other politician, I cringe and feel sorry for the one being bashed.  I do not hate politicians, I just despise the process. 

There is another political process I do not hate.  Paul told Timothy to pray for those in authority so that we might lead a quite and peaceable life.  It is our responsibility to pray for our leaders so that we can have an opportunity to daily live out our faith.  It is important to vote but it is more important to pray first.  Ask God to give you wisdom and vote to bring honor and glory to God.  Shouldn’t we do that in everything?
